The story of a soldier and poet Siegfried Sassoon (1886–1967), “Benediction” who was embellished for bravery on the Western Entrance, and is greatest remembered for his indignant and compassionate poems in regards to the First World Conflict, which introduced him to public and demanded acclaim. Avoiding the sentimentality and jingoism of many struggle poets, Sassoon wrote of the horror and brutality of trench warfare and contemptuously satirized generals, politicians, and churchmen for their incompetence and blind help in the struggle.
